OCTOBER HIGHLIGHTS

·        Statewide occupancy decreased 3.57% (74.79% vs. 77.56%) compared to October 2005. 

·        Statewide average daily room rate (ADR) increased 6.34%, increasing to $169.55 in October 2006 from $159.44 in October 2005.

·        Kauai (5.32% increase) posted an island-wide increase over October 2005, while Oahu (6.77% decrease), the Big Island (1.72% decrease), Maui (1.85% decrease), and Molokai (1.23% decrease) reported decreases in comparison to October of last year.

·        All islands posted monthly increases over October 2005; Oahu (8.38% increase), the Big Island (3.21% increase), Maui (5.44% increase), Kauai (7.49% increase), and Molokai (11.14% increase).

·        Statewide room revenue per available room (RevPAR) was $126.81 in October 2006, an increase of 2.54% from last October’s $123.67 RevPAR.

·        The Central region on Kauai (11.53% increase) recorded the largest percentage increase in occupancy over October 2005, while the Kaanapali area on Maui recorded the highest occupancy level, 84.43%.

·        Statewide occupancy for the hotel segment was 74.78% in October 2006, down 4.56% in comparison to October 2005.

·        Statewide occupancy for the resort condominium segment was 74.84%, up 0.56% in comparison to October 2005.

·        Statewide ADR increased for the hotel segment (6.27% increase) and for the resort condominium segment (7.24% increase).

YEAR-TO-DATE

·        The first ten months of 2006 showed a 1.71% decrease for statewide occupancy and a 11.45% increase for statewide ADR compared to 2005.

·        The following islands posted year-to-date increases in occupancy compared to 2005; Maui (0.95% increase) and Kauai (8.10% increase).  Oahu (4.18% decrease), the Big Island (2.28% decrease), and Molokai (0.53% decrease) posted year-to-date decrease. 

·        All islands recorded increases in October year-to-date ADR compared to 2005; Oahu (11.47% increase), Big Island (9.15% increase), Maui (10.84% increase), Kauai (8.52% increase), and Molokai (4.04% increase).

·        Statewide year-to-date occupancy decreased for the hotel segment (2.29% decrease) and increased for the resort condominium segment (1.04% increase).

·        Statewide year-to-date ADR increased for the hotel segment (11.89% increase) and for the resort condominium segment (9.77% increase).

 

 

PKF-Hawaii, Certified Public Accountants and Management Consultants, has been continuously monitoring Hawaii’s hotel industry since 1972 in conjunction with the Hawaii Hotel Association.  October’s statistics were based on PKF-Hawaii’s survey of 120 properties consisting of 62 hotels and 58 resort condominiums.
