What
Exactly is "Trends"?
As you may be aware, PKF is internationally known
for its specialty in the real estate, tourism, hotel and resort development
industries. On a worldwide basis, PKF has over 350 offices.
Trends is a monthly publication of PKF-Hawaii,
monitoring the hotel industry since 1972. Trends features an analysis on Hawaii's
visitor industry properties sorted accordingly by island, type of facility,
size, and quality.
Annual subscriptions to TRENDS cost $250, while
single issue copies are $25 each. To subscribe, click on the trends subscription
link on your left. If you currently receive TRENDS click on the online sign-up

Number of "Rooms Available" Defined

Total number of units (rooms) in hotel/condo
Less: Units not available for rent
(offices, storage, units occupied by owners)
Equals: Number of rooms available
Total Guest Count Defined
The sum of the number of guests registered each
day of the month (do not include owner occupants) For example, if a party
of 4 check-in and stays 5 days, the total guest count is 20.
"Room Sales" Defined
Total room revenues for the month excluding general
excise tax and transient accommodations tax (hotel room tax) collected.
"Average Length of Stay" Defined
Total rooms occupied during the month divided
by the number of check-ins. A check-in is defined as a registration card.
Even though a registration is a party of two or more and stays more than one
day, it is considered one check-in.
